Don’t ponds waste water?

To answer this; we share the view of Chad Morrill of California Waterscapes, and the answer is actually no! Ponds function by recirculating the same water within a closed loop system; yes some water must be added weekly to compensate for evaporation… but nowhere near the amount a grass lawn or soil based plants would require to flourish properly.

A fun fact: Those same lawns and soil based plants need  1.5 - 3 inches of water per week, while ponds use about 0.25 – 1 inches of water per week!

Ponds are an effective way to take that water you would be using on lawns, shrubs, etc , and instead adding a natural “holding tank” for water when rain comes down.
